WineMainz 2026: Germany’s Major Wine Fairs Unite in Mainz to Showcase Riesling, Sekt, and Biodynamic Wines

Germany’s wine sector will mark a notable moment in its contemporary evolution this April with the launch of WineMainz, a newly coordinated event that brings together four established wine fairs under one umbrella. Taking place from 25–27 April in Mainz, the initiative reflects a broader strategic effort within the German wine industry to consolidate visibility, strengthen trade engagement, and present a comprehensive portrait of the country’s premium wine culture.

Situated on the banks of the Rhine and long regarded as one of Germany’s historic wine capitals, Mainz provides an appropriate setting for an event designed to showcase the diversity and sophistication of modern German wine.

A Collaborative Industry Showcase

WineMainz will unite four influential wine fairs, each representing a distinctive dimension of Germany’s wine landscape:

VDP.Weinbörse (26–27 April) – the prestigious annual tasting hosted by the Verband Deutscher Prädikatsweingüter (VDP), now in its 52nd edition.

VINVIN – Trade Fair for Wines of Origin (25 April) – a platform dedicated to regional identity and terroir-driven wines.

Biodynamic Wine Fair (25 April) – bringing together producers certified by Demeter, respekt BIODYN, and BIODYVIN, highlighting the increasing role of sustainable viticulture in Germany.

Sparkling Wine Fair – Verband Traditioneller Sektmacher (25 April) – focusing on Germany’s expanding category of traditional-method sparkling wines.

Together, these events create a comprehensive forum that reflects both tradition and innovation across the German wine sector.

VDP.Weinbörse and the Evolution of German Classification

One of the central attractions of WineMainz will be the VDP.Weinbörse, where nearly all 199 VDP member estates are expected to present their newest releases.

The 2026 tasting will carry particular significance as it represents the first full vintage to incorporate the newly introduced VDP.Erstes Gewäch classification, positioned as the second-highest tier within the VDP’s vineyard hierarchy. The introduction of this classification signals the continued refinement of Germany’s terroir-focused quality system and reflects the country’s commitment to communicating origin with greater clarity.

Terroir, Sustainability, and Sparkling Innovation

Beyond the VDP showcase, the three additional fairs contribute to WineMainz’s broader narrative.

VINVIN will present approximately 100 producers from key regions including Pfalz and Rheinhessen, highlighting the stylistic diversity that characterizes German wine today, from crisp Rieslings and expressive Pinot varieties to emerging regional specialties.

The Biodynamic Wine Fair underscores the sector’s growing embrace of ecological and regenerative practices, bringing together nearly 60 wineries certified by leading biodynamic organizations. This reflects a wider global movement toward sustainability in viticulture, increasingly influential within premium wine tourism and trade markets.

Meanwhile, the Sparkling Wine Fair will spotlight more than 40 producers of traditional-method Sekt, a category experiencing renewed international attention. German sparkling wines, particularly those made from Riesling, Pinot Noir, and Chardonnay, are increasingly recognized for their precision, freshness, and aging potential.

A Reflection of German Wine’s Growing Confidence

According to Wines of Germany, the collaborative format of WineMainz demonstrates the maturity and confidence of the German wine sector, presenting a multifaceted portfolio that resonates across both on-trade and off-trade premium markets.

By aligning four established fairs into a single coordinated event, WineMainz positions itself not merely as a trade gathering but as a strategic showcase for the evolving identity of German wine—one defined by terroir, sustainability, sparkling innovation, and a clear commitment to quality.
