ProWein 2022 Starts Online Registrations

Preparations for ProWein 2022, the world’s largest wine and spirits trade fair, has commenced online registrations.

ProWein 2019 had over 6,900 exhibitors from 64 countries and 61,500 visitors from 143 nations taking part in the show.

Taking place in Düsseldorf from 27-29 March 2022, registrations for the ‘Same but Different’ event within the show will be open from the end of May. Registrations for exhibitors can sign up through the website: http://www.prowein.de/2330

“Our focus is on looking forward and going back to business. Physical events with real tastings and personal networking are indispensable to the international wines and spirits industry.

Digital formats such as online tastings or virtual panel discussions are important building blocks but cannot replace the real thing – trade fairs,” said Bastian Mingers, project director of ProWein.

“This has been an unmistakeable statement made by our partners and exhibitors from throughout the world. In the interest of the industry, we will look to blended events with a combination of physical and virtual formats while falling back on the experience we have gathered over the past few years.

In this extraordinary year we will open our international database with our Matchmaking Tool earlier than usual, to bring exhibitors and visitors together most efficiently,” Mingers added.

The hall concept with its clear segmentation according to product ranges and groups will also be developed next year.

The hall layout at ProWein 2022 will be as follows: Hall 9: New World; Hall 10: Spain; Halls 11 and 12: France; Hall 12: Spirits; Halls 13 and 14: Germany; Hall 13: Organic Wines/Packaging; Hall 15: Italy; Hall 16: Italy and Europe; Hall 17: Austria and Greece; Hall 7.0: ‘Same but Different’.

The masterclass and tastings program for the show will be announced shortly.

ProWein 2017: Record Number of Exhibitors and Participants

With new record exhibitor and visitor participation, this year’s ProWein, International Trade Fair for Wines and Spirits, impressively confirmed its status as the world’s most important business platform for the international wine and spirits sector. Over 6,500 exhibitors from more than 60 nations presented their creations to 58,500 trade visitors from 130 countries (2016: 55,700 from 126 countries) at the fairgrounds in Düsseldorf, Germany.
A total of 50% of the exhibitors were from Italy (1,600) and France (1,500), followed by Germany (1,000), the New World (600), Austria, Spain and Portugal. In focus were the new wines from all relevant winegrowing regions complemented by 300 spirits specialties. A famous exhibitor was Sting with his Il Palagio winery from Tuscany. Together with his wife Trudie Styler the superstar presented his wines at ProWein 2017.
This year visitor numbers also set new standards. Every second trade visitors came to Düsseldorf from abroad. Particularly pleasing was the high number of managers: at least two-thirds of all trade visitors were top decision-makers and came to ProWein with the intention to invest: almost 60% of all trade visitors concluded their business deals during the trade fair or plan to place orders after the show. Every second trade visitor visitors also found new suppliers. “ProWein is an incredibly intensive trade fair. For three days very concentrated and effective business is done here. Visitors included key players – important importers and representatives from large international commercial chains. Again this year the sector showed how strong and capable it is. An extremely high number of orders were placed and many new business ideas were discussed,” stated Hans Werner Reinhard, Managing Director of Messe Düsseldorf.
The exhibitors’ comprehensive ranges were supplemented by special focal points such as the Champagne Lounge, the Organic World with organic wines, the Tasting Area by Mundus Vini and the fizzz Lounge. At the “same but different” special show companies presented unusual wine and spirits production and marketing concepts. The concurrent ancillary program consisted of some 500 tastings and events, either at the exhibitors’ stands or in the ProWein Forum. These events were geared towards retail and restaurants and provided key impulses and information. One highlight was British wine critic Jancis Robinson’s presentation of her personal ProWein favorites.
Of particular interest this year was the new ProWein Business Report, developed in collaboration with the renowned Geisenheim University (Germany). About 1,500 wine sector experts from 46 countries took part in the survey about international wine markets, marketing trends and the development of wine sales channels. The report provides an overview of the sector’s current mood and in future will serve as an annual barometer of trends. Participants included wine producers (small and large wineries, cooperatives) as well as marketers (specialty retailers/wine merchants, wholesalers, importers/exporters, hotels and gastronomy).

ProWine Asia switches to Annual Cycle (Alternating Between Singapore and Hong Kong)

Unknown-2ProWein has been organized by Messe Düsseldorf for more than 20 years as the most important trade fair for wine and spirits worldwide. In 2013 the successful concept was exported to Shanghai in the form of ProWine China, in a venture with China International Exhibitions Ltd, a member of Allworld Exhibitions. Once a year the wine sector from Mainland China meets here every November. April 2016 then saw the arrival of ProWine Asia in Singapore that was initially planned as a biennial event. Due to its great success and the great demand on the part of exhibitors ProWine Asia is now to run every year, alternating between Singapore and Hong Kong. The first ProWine Asia in Hong Kong will be held from 8 – 11 May 2017.

By extending ProWine Asia in Hong Kong Messe Düsseldorf is continuing its successful cooperation with the international Allworld Group. Like in Shanghai and Singapore ProWine Asia in Hong Kong will run in parallel with a leading food fair, in this case HOFEX. The contractual partners are Messe Düsseldorf China Ltd. and Hong Kong Exhibition Services Ltd. (HKES), a member of the international Allworld Exhibitions Network. HOFEX in Hong Kong is the most important trade fair for food and drinks in the region and next year it will be celebrating its 30thanniversary. The last HOFEX in May 2015 attracted over 38,000 trade visitors from the food and catering trade. The former wine segment “Wine&Spirits@Hofex” will now be merged into ProWine Asia at the Hong Kong location and will be further extended with the help of Düsseldorf know-how. While ProWine Asia in Singapore predominantly addresses the South East Asian region ProWine Asia in Hong Kong is directed not only at the local market but also at other Asian markets such as Macao, Taiwan, South Korea and Japan.

“With ProWine Asia in Singapore we have already made a very successful entry on the South East Asian wine market. Extending ProWine Asia was therefore simply a logical consequence, especially since we boast very great experience with our partners. The annual scheduling in combination with the alternating venue has immense potential. At the same time, we provide the sector with the perfect date with ProWine Asia being held in the first half of the year. With these strong cornerstones we offer all internationally operating producers an all-round carefree package for the entire Asian continent,” says Hans Werner Reinhard, Managing Director at Messe Düsseldorf GmbH and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Messe Düsseldorf China Ltd. DanielCheung, General Manager at Hong Kong Exhibition Services Ltd adds: “We are delighted that we can offer such a qualified platform for the wine sector in parallel with HOFEX. With the experience we have gained over the past 30 years with HOFEX we know that trade visitors will very much welcome this offering in Hong Kong – especially because it comes care of such a strong brand as ProWein.”

ProWine Asia in Hong Kong and Singapore is like ProWine China in Shanghai a pure B2B trade show. The first edition of ProWine Asia in Hong Kong runs from 8 to 11 May 2017 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. In the following year ProWine Asia will then be held again in Singapore from 24 – 27 April 2018. Further information, and soon also registration documents for exhibitors, can be found at www.prowineasia.com.

The success of ProWein continues unabated. Once again, from 13 to 15 March 2016 more exhibitors and visitors from throughout the world came to the leading international fair for wines and spirits in Düsseldorf. Over 55,000 trade visitors came here to gather information at the stands of the 6,200 exhibitors, to place their orders and take advantage of the varied supporting programme. As many as half the visitors now come to Düsseldorf from abroad. Now in its 10th year ProWein goes City was once again held in and around Düsseldorf with numerous wine events for all wine lovers.

The variety of ProWein is unique worldwide. At no other event is there such a wide and international range on offer. At ProWein 2016 all relevant wine regions of the world gathered in Düsseldorf, including numerous market leaders from Europe and abroad. The largest exhibitor nations this year included Italy (1,500), France (1,300), Germany (1,000), Spain (550), Austria (320), Portugal (300) and Overseas (600). Added to this were some 420 exhibitors from 30 countries with their special spirits. Exhibitors from a total of 59 nations attended the event.

This line-up attracted over 55,000 trade visitors from throughout the world to Düsseldorf – corresponding to some 6% over last year (2015: 52,000 trade visitors from 123 countries).  Here ProWein is increasingly becoming a top global event: this year visitors travelled from 126 different countries. One in two visitors came to Düsseldorf from abroad. The highest rise outside Europe was posted by visitors from Overseas, mainly from Asia. Overall, we are seeing a trend where ProWein is primarily attracting decision-makers with great purchasing responsibility: over 70% of visitors came from top or middle management. The success of the trade fair was also highly rated: one in two visitors confirmed that they found new suppliers and two-thirds were able to go home with useful info on trends and innovations. Just under 96% stated they had entirely reached the goals of their trade fair visit. “Figures clearly show that ProWein is the world’s most important business platform for the entire sector. This is where the trade fair budgets are spent. And also for the major, prizewinning wine estates ProWein has now become the absolute must-attending event,” says Hans Werner Reinhard summing up the success of ProWein 2016.

Siobhan Thompson, CEO at Wines of South Africa (WOSA), echoed this sentiment: “ProWein is the most important trade fair for our South African producers – primarily due to its great global relevance. ProWein gives us the opportunity to come into contact with all key contacts from throughout the world. This was also confirmed again this year.”

Monika Reule, Managing Director at the German Wine Institute (DWI) explains: “ProWein has once again shown that it is the world’s leading wine trade fair. Receiving special praise was the quality of the national and international trade visitors.”

Programme of Supporting Events

Once again this year ProWein was accompanied by a varied supporting programme. Over 300 events were on offer either at the exhibitors’ stands themselves or at the central ProWein Forum. Added to this were other tasting opportunities – for instance, in the Champagne Lounge or at the MUNDUS VINI selection. Now in its second edition the “same but different” special show showcased new and unusual paths in wine production or marketing. In the FIZZZ Lounge light yet also very tasty Shim Cocktails were mixed and presented as new trend drinks.
